Mistakes in Canadian Hospitals

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

CTV is running a report by the Canadian Institute for Health Information(CIHI) that states "the chances of patients receiving the wrong medication or wrong dose was about 1 in 10 in 2005".

Other issues in Canadian hospitals include "The chances of an adult contracting an infection while in an acute care hospital are about the same: 1 in 10, while the chances of a child contracting an infection while in hospital are about 1 in 12.

Very scary. This why it is important to ask about EVERYTHING being given to you and if you are unable to talk have someone else speak for you. There is nothing wrong with saying "No" to a medication, procedure or so forth. This is your right. Report reactions of any sort to your doctor right away. Make and informed decision about your health.

Medical terminology can cause confusion at the best of times. If there is a word you do not understand all you have to do is double-click on it and the definition will appear! Don't forget to drop me a line by email at versilleus@gmail.com with your comments, questions‚ recommended resources‚ concerns‚ & especially your experiences with clusters. Or come find me on my Facebook Profile to add me as a Friend. Whether you are a supporter‚ care-giver or sufferer. I would love to hear from you!

*Please do not use this information for self diagnoses. Writing about my experiences with chronic cluster headaches & epilepsy is a good outlet for me. Consult your Dr. with any kind of headache or chronic pain you may have. The 3rd party links on my site I have found to be a good resource to me over the past few years & dearly hope they will benefit you as well.*
