13 Things You Don't Say to Someone with Chronic Pain

Saturday, September 05, 2009

I came across a site that has various types of clothing with expression for those of us in chronic pain. Some of you may have heard of CafePress. Their is a section dedicated to us who want to express themselves without having to say a word ;)here . The more we speak out, in one form or another, the less stigma will hopefully be attached to those of us who "Don't look sick."

One of my personal favourites from one of their line is the "13 Things You Don't Say to Someone with Chronic Pain" quote.

1. You don't look sick.
2. Maybe if you just got out more.
3. You can learn to live with it.
4. You just have to tough it out.
5. It's all in your head.
6. You're just having a bad day.
7. This will pass.
8. Just get more exercise.
9. It can't be that bad.
10. It must be neat not to work.
11. Just be more positive.
12. It could be worse.
13. There's people worse off than you .

Don't all of those statements sound familiar? Check them out and let the world know what we think!

"You can turn painful situations around through laughter. If you can find humour in anything, even poverty, you can survive it."
-Bill Cosby

Medical terminology can cause confusion at the best of times. If there is a word you do not understand all you have to do is double-click on it and the definition will appear! Don't forget to drop me a line by email at versilleus@gmail.com with your comments, questions‚ recommended resources‚ concerns‚ & especially your experiences with clusters. Or come find me on my Facebook Profile to add me as a Friend. Whether you are a supporter‚ care-giver or sufferer. I would love to hear from you!

*Please do not use this information for self diagnoses. Writing about my experiences with chronic cluster headaches & epilepsy is a good outlet for me. Consult your Dr. with any kind of headache or chronic pain you may have. The 3rd party links on my site I have found to be a good resource to me over the past few years & dearly hope they will benefit you as well.*
